Title: Delirium (Delirium #1)
Author: Lauren Oliver
Release Date: February 1, 2011
Genre: Science Fiction / Young Adult / Paranormal Romance
Summary (from Goodreads):
Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn’t understand that once love — the deliria — blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the government demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.
But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love.
This. Book. Is. Freaking. Amazing!
Okay, so I heard from so many that this book is breathtakingly delicious and so it was! Oh, Lauren Oliver, you are a genius for even thinking of the concept that love could be one deadly infection. That love is a sickness that actually grows inside you and could kill you. Just amazing, is all I can say. And the characters are well written and thought of. I love Alex, Lena and Hana.
Alex, oh Alex, why do you have to be so fucking handsome in my mind? Why?!!?!? LOL He’s so cute when he admitted that he likes Lena. That was really hard to do, yes? To admit that you like someone and to tell her everything about you, and yes, I mean every single thing from being an Invalid or from the Wilds, to faking the procedure, to falling in love with her, to telling her about your family’s past and to even taking her with you into the Wilds! That was a very dangerous act. But as Lena had said in the book, when she was with Alex, she feels no harm and she always feel safe. I hope I meet someone like Alex to LOL Someone who could make me feel safe like being cupped in two hands LOL
And I admire Lena for being so brave. She is brave for her size LOL She was scared of being infected and getting the disease but when she met Alex, she forgets about all of the things that scares her and has given all of her trust and her courage to him. Isn’t that just sweet? And what is it with her that she keeps on telling that she isn’t beautiful? Oh God, if she is the one on the cover (new hardbound cover with a girl with pretty brown eyes, fully groomed eyebrows, full lips and white complexion) then she really is beautiful. Very beautiful. The face on the cover is gorgeous. She would pass as the new cheer leading squad in school, seriously.
And about Hana, I thought she was the one who told the officials about Lena and Alex’s hiding place, their secret house. I thought she got jealous cos it got to me that she wanted out of the town. She wanted to go far away and not be like everybody else. I thought she didn’t want to do the procedure and so I thought she got jealous that Lena has her Alex and she’s got no one. But I was wrong, she was a good friend until the end. She helped Lena deliver a message, in a way she helped her escape. So I love her for supporting Alex and Lena’s forbidden love.
Okay, you guys might think that I’m a sucker for romance and all I see about the book is the romantic side and the love tandem but hey, what else is there to see, yes? It is indeed about love and it’s limitations, or rather it’s forbidden side. I love the tragedy, I love the problem, I love this book. I actually love every book I read cos I don’t read books that has low ratings and bad comments. So basically, I listen to suggestions of friends. And this book, is actually a must-read. Watch out for a very good and delicious love story!
