Summary (from Goodreads):

Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grown dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious “errands”; she speaks many languages—not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When one of the strangers—beautiful, haunted Akiva—fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

My review:

Okay, so it took me like a week and a half to finish this book. I usually am a three-day-reader or less. But lately, I’ve been out of focused in reading and more time with my studies/social life. And I feel guilty *sad face* yes I do. I feel like I’m turning my back on something I love. Reading is something I love and I do not want to get my focus out of it. So now, I wanted to go back into reading fast. Sorry, not related with the book. Anyway, on we go.

So this book is actually a good read. It is about one of my favorite fictional characters, an angel. Though it is a bit boring because it has too many unnecessary phrases or should I say, too wordy? But the storyline is good. I love how Karou has two identities, Karou and Madrigal. I love how Akiva found her and how he realized that she was his one love. I love the name Akiva, it sounds so handsome and mysterious and… I dunno, fierce? LOL but anyway, it is a weird name and also, Karou. I love Brimstone, he seems so sincere and just so concerned with Karou. Even before knowing what he is to Madrigal in her early life. He seems too protective of Karou. I love how he resurrects people. I love the war between seraphs and chimaeras, it makes Karou and Akiva’s relationship a bit complicated and hard to achieve. And I love dramatic love stories. What is the thrill in reading a love story if there is no problem/hindrance, yes?

I just don’t like some of the paragraphs in the book, some are too long and I just get to skim it and proceed to the next. Don’t get me wrong, I love reading but reading long paragraphs bore the shit out of me. And… that’s it! I love the remaining things about this book, the characters, the plot, the setting, the POV etc.

Well, next read is Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver. I hope it’s gonna be a good read like this one! Thumbs up to Daughter of Smoke and Bone!
