Summary (from Goodreads):
Hell on earth.
That’s what it’s like for Luce to be apart from her fallen angel boyfriend, Daniel.
It took them an eternity to find one another, but now he has told her he must go away. Just long enough to hunt down the Outcasts—immortals who want to kill Luce. Daniel hides Luce at Shoreline, a school on the rocky California coast with unusually gifted students: Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans.
At Shoreline, Luce learns what the Shadows are, and how she can use them as windows to her previous lives. Yet the more Luce learns, the more she suspects that Daniel hasn’t told her everything. He’s hiding something—something dangerous.
What if Daniel’s version of the past isn’t actually true? What if Luce is really meant to be with someone else?
The second novel in the addictive FALLEN series . . . where love never dies.
At the end of Fallen, Luce was sent to a much safer place by Daniel and Mr. Cole. It was talked about that she’ll go to Shoreline School, in California, a school for ‘Nephilims’, people who has DNA of an angel. She was fetched by Daniel in the airport after the airplane landed. They went straight to the school but had passed through a small village namely Fort Bragg. Daniel told Luce that she once loved there in her past life but couldn’t believe it because the city seems to be a lonesome place. And so they reached Shoreline, had told their goodbyes and a new life awaits Luce. She was surprised on how popular she was in the campus, for letting her name be glued to the highest angel, Daniel. She met her annoying-at-first dorm mate, Shelby. And also two of the students there, Dawn and Jasmine, they became good friends and hang with each other. She also met Miles during one of the classroom lectures and she sat beside him.
Once they talked about the Announcers or rather Shadows as what Luce called them ever since. It was some kind of a message from the Shadow that was shown to the class and everybody who watched became tired. Luce was shocked for she doesn’t know anything about the Announcers, she didn’t know that they can watch the hidden messages in them. And btw, she colored her hair blond. And so, then came Roland to enroll in Shoreline without any said reasons to Luce. He threw a party and had fun but she was caught by Daniel and went somewhere else for a small talk, then they argued for Daniel did not tell everything to Luce and did not want her to join their Yacht outing with the rest of her Shoreline friends. The next day, Luce got a letter from Daniel telling her to go to Noyo Point, outside the school. She had to ride a bus to be able to get there. She went and all she saw was Cam. She was tricked by someone called an Outcast, the worst kinds of angels who sided with Satan during the revolt. Cam killed the girl who sent Luce a letter and brought her back to shoreline. She was of course, shocked with what happened and owed her life to Cam.
And so they got into the Yacht and were getting ready for a speech, Dawn, Jasmine, Luce and another girl from the school. They panicked when they heard a scream, telling that Dawn fall down in the water. Luce quickly jumped out the yacht and swam to get her friend back. Steven rescued them and told the both of them to not tell anybody what happened there. The next day, Luce got information about her past parents and went to the address that has been given by the Announcer. She went with Shelby but didn’t go through and meet her past family because she might end up getting them heart attacks. The next day, Daniel visited her again and they argued again. The other next day, Luce found out that Daniel and Shelby had a relationship while she was reincarnated. She couldn’t believe in what she knew but accepted it and of course, Daniel and she were destined for each other.
Then there is this one day where Steven and Francesca made them fence with each other. Luce discovered that she could hear the thoughts of the shadows above her and won a fight over Lilith. The night came and Luce was trying to view some of the Announcers messages and she also discovered that she could go inside an Announcer and travel by it. She was going inside one when Shelby and Miles held her up and helped her. They were worried so looked for Luce because there was a party going on and she knew from them that Dawn was missing. She was kidnapped but retrieved by Steven. The Outcasts thought that Luce was Dawn because they looked much like each other.
She saw another relative of hers from the past named Vera, her sister in one of her past life. She decided to go to Las Vegas with Shelby and Miles and pay her a visit to know more about her life and when she did, they got caught up into trouble and Luce gladly saw Arriane and rescued her from the Vegas bouncers. They ate at a diner and discussed some things and went back to Shoreline with Arriane as their guide. They were surprised to see Daniel in her dorm room and they talked. The next day, Francesca and Steven called the three, Luce, Shelby and Miles for their punishment for travelling via an Announcer. It was forbidden of course, and Shelby and Miles got to help out or a community service with Mr. Kramer while Luce had to be grounded, only allowed to go to classes, meals and dorm.
Then, Thanksgiving came and she thought she was going to stay inside Shoreline because she was grounded and Daniel said so. She got shocked when Arriane was packing for her while she was sleeping. She told her that Roland will be there in a while and when he came, he was with Miles, all ready to go. Then Shelby got back with her ‘sorry-ass-ex-boyfriend’ and packed her belongings to go with them, inviting her voluntarily. They travelled via an Announcer and went to Sword and Cross, Luce’s past school before Shoreline. They stayed there for the night and will be fetched by Luce’s parents the next day.
They arrived at Luce’s home and made themselves at home. A taxi honked and Luce expected Callie, her best friend that she almost forgot because of the things that are happening to her, but she wasn’t alone. Along with her was Daniel and Cam. They saw her at the airport and thought they could go to the Prices together. Luce answered the door and saw Gabbe, one of the angels with Molly, one of the demons, telling her that they live nearby so they dropped off. She welcomed Callie, Daniel and Cam and talked to her mom, telling her that Daniel was the one for her. They ate the meals and her mom and dad took Andrew, the poodle, for a walk.
After their mom and dad left the house, Outcasts came out and had a fight with Daniel, Cam, Arriane, Roland, Gabbe and Molly. All for one thing: to save Luce and keep her safe. But Luce got confused; she had talked to one Outcast and told her that she was the entrance for the Outcasts to enter heaven again. Miles, having the power to mirror oneself, had copied Luce’s image and was brought by Phil, one of the Outcasts, and flew above. Cam thinking it was Luce shot her with a bow and tried to kill her. Daniel got mad, thought Cam had killed her precious one, knocked him on the ground and got mad. But then they saw Luce, entering an Announcer and would travel anywhere just to find the answers she was searching for. She was gone and now Daniel wanted to get her back. He will get her back even if it’s death between them. He will get her back.
It wasn’t any sweeter than the first book. They argued here and all was confusion but of course, I liked the story except the part where Luce was questioning Daniel about everything. If it’s love then it’s all about trust. She didn’t seem to have faith in Daniel who was getting tired of beating off the crap out of the other creatures that would like to kill her. She should just be content for when in time, Daniel would tell her everything she has to know and she needs to know. She is not so patient and understanding enough about him. She makes him feel pressured and hurt. I could feel for Daniel, for all of what he’s doing is for Luce and Luce alone.
