One evil…

Who will prevail?

Twin sisters Lia and Alice Milthorpe have just become orphans. They have also become enemies. As they discover their roles in a prophecy that has turned generations of sisters against each other, the girls find themselves entangled in a mystery that involves a tattoo-like mark, their parents’ deaths, a boy, a book, and a lifetime of secrets.

Lia and Alice don’t know whom they can trust.

They just know they can’t trust each other.

My Summary:

It’s about twin sisters, who happen to have their roles in the prophecy twisted from the way of their birth. Lia, was supposed to be the Guardian for she is the supposed to be born second but in the way they were going out of their mother’s womb is so complicated that the doctor had to cut her mom to get them both safely leaving their mother as safe as they are. And so Lia, became the Gate for she was out first, taking her out from the cut of her mother’s tummy and Alice, the guardian. Lia had this strange mark, with a snake forming a circle that is most likely eating its tail, with a C in the middle. She had it ever since she was born, and wouldn’t know the meaning of it until she gains knowledge of the prophecy.

Until their father, Thomas Milthorpe, died, Lia doesn’t know anything about the prophecy until her close friend, James Douglas, found a book about it inside their library and gave it to her. It looks like an old book that seems so important to Mr. Milthorpe to have it kept safe in the book chamber. He translated everything inside for her for it is written in Latin. She wondered about what it meant and eventually finds herself, in the middle of the prophecy, learning more and asking more questions in her head that only those people involved might know. She went to see a spiritualist named, Sonia Sorrensen, and have told her what she saw in the sitting when she went to her place. And at the same time after the sitting, she saw the same mark on one of her friend’s wrist, Luisa Torelli, and asked why on earth she had the same weird mark.

Time had told so many things to her, including the twisted roles of her and her sister, that Sonia and Luisa are two of the keys that she needs in the battle, which she has to find the other two, which can be seen from his father’s research about the keys and is written as a list that was kept by his ten-year-old brother, who cannot use his legs for walking from the day he was born. It’s a must that Alice would like to get the list first, so that she could stop Lia in finding the two more keys, so she made Henry come with her in the river and talked to him about how he could help Lia escape the grief and sorrow that the prophecy has given her if he could only hand over the list to her. Lia, on the other hand, had to get the list and at the same time protect his brother from Alice. Henry is determined not to give the list to Alice and protect Lia from her, so Alice pushed his chair at the cliff and drowned Henry.

Lia couldn’t get much of her strength from her brother’s death. He had just lost her father and then now, his brother. She decided to move away and find answers from the origin of everything, where the other key, Helene Castilla, might be found. Before she leaves, she had to talk to the closest friend, lover and the man she truly cares about, James, and had to tell him that she needs time to come up with herself and compose herself for she has lost her love for her own self when her father and brother died, but of course, that wasn’t the truth. She left to find answers and finish the battle for once and for all. But she promised to be back with James in times will. She gave him her word and her heart. She moved to England with her friend and ally, Sonia, and stayed there for good and to keep distance from Alice.

My Review:

Here’s another ‘angel’ story and I’m getting attached to the facts and makes me want to be an angel on my own. Unlike Fallen by Lauren Kate, the story most likely revolves around twin sisters and more on sibling rivalry than romance. Although Lia is in love with James, their story was never the main one. And so it is all about how the other sister wants to get what her other sister has. I personally, liked the cover because it is displayed with such a pretty face as its cover, such pointed nose, blue deep-set eyes, and red firm lips. The girls on the cover almost seem so perfect.

I couldn’t put the book down but forced myself because I have to do my personal stuffs and so I go back and read. I finished it in one day and hopefully same goes with the second book. I cannot wait to read it.
